THE STRENGTH
FREQUENCY.
Strength is the foundation of the MYFREQ system.
For men 35+, strength is not just about lifting heavier weights. It is about protecting muscle, posture, joints, confidence and long-term capability.
The goal is not to look dangerous. The goal is to become difficult to break.
TRAIN MOVEMENTS.
NOT MUSCLES.
Strength is the first Frequency because every other physical quality depends on it. Endurance needs strength. Athleticism needs strength. Performance needs strength. Longevity needs strength.
Inside MYFREQ, strength is not treated like bodybuilding. It is treated as the base layer of athletic identity — built through compound movements, progressive overload and the relentless pursuit of real-world capability.
Strength training preserves and builds lean mass — especially critical for men in a calorie deficit or recovering from time away from training.
Structured strength work protects tendons, ligaments and connective tissue. Weak muscles mean more stress on joints.
A strong posterior chain, upper back and core holds the body upright under fatigue — in training and in life.
There is something that happens when a man consistently moves heavy things. It transfers beyond the gym.
THE SIGNAL MUST
BE STRONGER.
After 35, muscle becomes harder to build and easier to lose without consistent stimulus. This is not inevitable decline — it is a signal problem. The body stops maintaining what it does not regularly need.
Strength training provides that signal. It tells the body: keep this muscle, protect this structure, maintain this capability.
For men 35+, strength training also supports hormonal health, bone density, fat loss, joint stability and posture. It is the closest thing to a complete physical investment.
The standard does not drop after 35. But training must become smarter: recovery respected, technique prioritised, progression deliberate.
SIX MOVEMENT CATEGORIES.
A man who can squat, hinge, push, pull, carry and brace has a body that can perform — in the gym, on race day and in life.
SQUAT
Builds legs, hips, posture and lower-body resilience. Trains quads, glutes, core, hips and ankles. One of the best long-term exercises for independence and athletic capability.
HINGE
Builds posterior chain, hip power and total-body force production. Deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts and hip thrusts teach force from the floor — the foundation of athletic strength.
PUSH
Builds upper-body pressing strength and shoulder stability. Bench press, dumbbell press, overhead press and push-ups. The aim is controlled, pain-free strength.
PULL
Most men need more pulling. Rows, pull-ups and pulldowns support shoulder health, back development, posture, grip and athletic balance. A strong back changes how a man carries himself.
CARRY
Carries are underrated. They build grip, core, traps, posture and conditioning simultaneously. Life is not performed lying on a bench. Carries build strength that transfers.
BRACE
Builds the ability to transfer force and protect the spine under load. Core stability, anti-rotation and breathing patterns are the foundation of safe, powerful movement.
IMPROVE WITHOUT
BREAKING RECOVERY.
Progressive overload still matters after 40. But it must be intelligent. You can progress by improving weight, reps, sets, tempo control, range of motion, technical quality or training density.
The goal is not to max out every week. The goal is consistent improvement without destroying the recovery budget. A good strength session should leave you trained — not broken.
CAPABILITY
MARKERS.
TRAINING LIKE YOU ARE 25
You can still train hard. But recovery must be respected and programmed — not ignored until something breaks.
CHASING RANDOM WORKOUTS
Random sessions create sweat. Structured programmes create progress. The body adapts to repeated stimulus with progressive overload.
IGNORING PULLING WORK
Most men over-press and under-pull. A strong back protects shoulders, improves posture and balances the body for long-term training.
EGO LIFTING
Heavy is only useful when it is controlled and technically sound. A heavy squat with poor depth or a rounded back is not strength — it is risk.
DROPPING STRENGTH DURING FAT LOSS
If you want to keep muscle while cutting, strength training is non-negotiable. It tells the body to keep what it has built.

Hybrid Athlete Programme: Strength and Running Explained
Coming SoonWhat is the best strength training for men over 40?
The best strength training for men over 40 focuses on compound movements — squat, hinge, push, pull, carry, brace — with progressive overload, mobility work, adequate recovery and consistent frequency.
Can men build muscle after 40?
Yes. Men can build muscle after 40, but protein intake, training quality, sleep and recovery all become more important. The signal must be stronger and the environment must support it.
How often should men over 40 lift weights?
Most men over 40 do well with 3 to 4 structured strength sessions per week. For hybrid athletes combining running and strength, 3 high-quality sessions often outperform 5 average sessions.
Should men over 40 lift heavy?
Yes, but heavy should mean controlled and technically sound. Heavy training does not mean reckless training. Load should be earned through demonstrated technique.
Can strength training help fat loss?
Yes. Strength training helps preserve muscle during a calorie deficit and improves body composition. Without it, a significant portion of weight lost during dieting comes from muscle, not fat.
